I am a critical care nurse, a writer, a witch, married, a CODA, a feminist, a runner, a Ravenclaw. this tumblr is a random collection of things i like.
Exodus 21:22-23
If an attack on a woman causes a miscarriage the attacker must pay a fine. If he causes serious damage to the mother it’s “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”. This indicates that a fetus does not have equal standing under God’s law.
Leviticus 27:6
Monetary values are assigned to lives according to age and gender. Lives under one month old have no value.
Numbers 5:21-21, 27-28
A potion given to the Israelites by God is used to determine paternity. If the father is not the husband, an abortion occurs. god clearly places no value on a fetus that is not the result of union between husband and wife.
Genesis 38:24
God’s law states that if a woman is pregnant and is to be executed there is to be no waiting for the fetus to be born. It is counted as part of the mother and she burned to death with it still in her womb.Well, hey, would you look at that!
Oh my Maude this is the greatest thing. THE GREATEST THING. NEVER NOT REBLOG THIS.
Except this makes pro-abortion people look bad…?
“Yeah I agree, get rid of a fetus because the dad isn’t the husband!”
“Get rid of the fetus because it’s clearly gonna be just as evil as its mom!”
I recognize abortion as a necessary evil, but this doesn’t do anything for either side.
Also, this is all in the old testament, and people quote Leviticus all the time in regards to pro/anti-gay. In Leviticus, it says a child should be stoned to death if it disrespects is mother and that shaving or cutting hair is immoral. It also states that if a man lies with a man as he should with a woman he should be put to death.
Don’t just use sources when they’re convenient for your argument; look at the entire source’s credibility.
First, “pro-abortion” is not a label I’ve heard many people use. “Pro-choice” does not mean “Pro-abortion”. The two are being improperly conflated. I don’t see where anyone is agreeing with the scriptures posted, either — I think it’s just pointing out what the content is.
Second, I don’t feel that any part of the Bible has any credibility whatsoever, but I do think it’s interesting that Christians like to pretend the Old Testament is meaningless for their religion, when it certainly is not. Of course, when it’s convenient, they’ll use it. Old Testament scriptures are, as you’ve noted, often used to justify homophobia as well.
